Hyper Sentinel Fusion, the retro-styled arcade shooter from Andrew and Rob Hewson, has launched a Kickstarter for a special edition that packages a DRM-free PC/Mac build on a floppy-disk-inspired USB drive, with the game targeting a summer 2026 release across PC, consoles, and collector formats.

Hyper Sentinel Fusion, a retro-inspired arcade shooter that blends fast-paced gameplay with roguelite and extraction elements, is set to arrive in 2026 on a floppy disk. It’s the latest entry in the Hyper Sentinel series from father-and-son duo Andrew and Rob Hewson.

The Kickstarter campaign for the floppy disk edition is live and has already raised $16,000 from over 300 backers, closing in on the $20,224 needed to fund the project. With 31 days still remaining and 75% of its pledge goal reached in just 24 hours, the game is on track to enter production for PC, Mac, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, and special-edition floppy disks—with a strange twist.

The game follows 2018’s Hyper Sentinel, which drew heavily from classic Commodore 64 titles like Uridium and Paradroid. Andrew and Rob are once again paying homage to the retro era, tapping into the floppy disk roots of Uridium and Paradroid.

According to the Kickstarter page, “Slide open that floppy shutter to uncover a secret USB stick loaded with this exciting new retro game for the modern era (DRM-free) for PC and Mac, crammed with bonus goodies. It’s just like finding hidden cheat codes of the past.”

Early Bird Backers who pledge £25 or £30 will receive everything in the digital pack, including Hyper Sentinel Fusion on a platform of their choice. For £45, backers get everything from the previous tier, plus the original Hyper Sentinel on a USB cassette and a digital copy for PC.

Retro enthusiasts who pledge £150 will see their name in the Fallen Heroes Log Book Lore, receive a Certificate of Authenticity, and, most importantly, gain beta access to play the game before launch on PC.

Considering that all modern PCs, with the rare exception of a few retro enthusiasts, have relegated floppy drives in favor of digital media, opting for a floppy-disk-inspired USB drive makes perfect sense. The USB drive is firmly tucked inside a sliding 3.5-inch case and comes with a complete full-color manual and extra goodies, all neatly packed in a beautifully boxed set.

As for the core game, Hyper Sentinel Fusion builds on its 2018 predecessor. Players pilot a starfighter and obliterate enemies in procedurally generated alien megastructures.

Players then infiltrate enemy ships, deploy a Hyper Droid to loot resources and weapons, and hunt down the Alienoid Cortex before the ship explodes. Failure sends you back to your Moonbase, where you invest hard-earned resources into upgrades and plan your next run.

On the development side, Hyper Sentinel Fusion is reportedly 80% complete, and the team is targeting a summer 2026 release window.
