Insider Jason Schreier has heard that Sony might revert to more strict PlayStation exclusivity. Gamers previously had some assurance that first-party PS5 games would eventually land on PCs. Steam sales may not be lucrative enough to bring console titles like Marvel’s Wolverine to the marketplace.

As part of a cross-platform strategy, PlayStation has released single-player PS5 exclusive games on PC. Even so, according to reputable insider Jason Schreier, Sony could be rethinking that approach. In a new podcast, he questions whether the added sales justified sacrificing a key console perk. Anticipated titles like Marvel’s Wolverine may now never debut on Steam.

Currently, the company follows a pattern in which live-service multiplayer titles come to PCs, sometimes on day-one. However, narrative-driven projects like Death Stranding 2 have remained on the PS5 for a fixed period. Schreier has seen signs that even single-player games will remain permanently locked to the first-party hardware.

One explanation could lie with modest sales on Valve’s marketplace. In November 2025, an Aliena Analytics report discussed how Sony had earned $1.5 billion in gross revenue from Steam. Yet solo-player PS5 exclusive games haven’t fared as well as Helldivers 2.

One of the best performers on PC was Horizon Zero Dawn, which moved 4.5 million units. Still, the Guerrilla Games action RPG, along with Spider-Man and God of War, lagged far behind the 13+ million mark of Helldivers 2. PlayStation must also give Valve a significant cut of the revenue. Rumors suggested that Sony may develop a rival launcher, but that now seems less likely.

Xbox and PlayStation reversing course on exclusives?

The podcast noted how Microsoft’s cross-platform publishing push has made Xbox consoles less desirable. With PlayStation embracing the PC and, to some extent, the Series X, it seemed the days of exclusivity were fading. As the PS6 looms, Sony will again seek incentives to encourage early adopters.

Schreier also made a troubling prediction for fans anticipating Marvel’s Wolverine. The PS5 game has a September 15th release date, but the Bloomberg reporter revealed it might never arrive on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
