PS5 Pro sales accelerate, with Resident Evil Requiem and upgraded PSSR bolstering console

The flagship PlayStation console generated excitement at launch, but a high price limits its appeal. However, TheGamer has seen signs that PS5 Pro sales are surging. Sold out on Sony’s storefront in several countries, Resident Evil Requiem hype is one factor. The PS5 Pro enhanced game showcases improved PSSR upscaling, unlocking the system’s potential.
Where is the PS5 Pro sold out?
Buyers don’t need to panic, as several major retailers like Amazon still have the PS5 Pro in stock. Even so, it’s no longer available on the official PlayStation store in the US, UK, and potentially other regions. As s1nick notes, social media has also seen an uptick in posts with gamers showing off their new purchases.
Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem may have become an unexpected system seller. Pre-order sales were strong, and physical versions of the survival horror game are in short supply. Once news broke that the title is the first to use an upgraded PSSR, some fans were tempted to upgrade.

The console offers more storage and a faster GPU, but the upscaler is also exclusive to the system. Benefiting from neural networks, the AI-powered technology helps RE9 achieve 4K and 60fps with ray tracing active. Players can also opt for a 120fps performance mode, without a substantial drop in image quality.
With a larger advantage over competing hardware, other PS5 Pro enhanced games will enjoy improved optimization. Rockstar’s GTA 6 should encourage wider adoption, particularly if the PS5 and Xbox Series X have performance limitations.
The PC vs PS5 Pro debate rages on
Another potential explanation for a PS5 Pro sales boost could be the cost of assembling a gaming PC. Facing rising GPU, storage, and memory prices, designing a custom rig is straining budgets. Even with a $50 increase in August 2025, the console may now seem more affordable in comparison.
Gamers should wait for updated data before jumping to conclusions. In January, Circana reported that only 3% of PS5 systems sold over its lifetime were Pro models. For 2025 alone, the premium hardware registered a sales share of around 13% in the U.S. It’s too early to make comparisons with the PS4 Pro. Still, PlayStation is likely encouraged about the future of the next-generation follow-up.
