Leon S. Kennedy's VA says he’s been “let down” before but trusts Resident Evil director

Resident Evil Requiem’s Leon S. Kennedy, voiced by Nick Apostolides, recently opened up about his feelings regarding the upcoming Resident Evil film directed by Zach Cregger. Previous Resident Evil movies were met with critical disdain. However, a new Resident Evil reboot is in the works from Cregger, who also directed Barbarian.
Returning to Nick Apostolides, he spoke at the BAFTA Games Awards 2026 and acknowledged that previous live-action adaptations of Resident Evil didn’t quite resonate with him, leaving him rather disappointed. However, he now has renewed hope for Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil adaptation.
Resident Evil Requiem recently proved itself a blockbuster hit, selling a whopping 6 million copies worldwide and topping sales charts. As the series continues to thrive in its natural habitat of video games, the odds of a successful Resident Evil film adaptation seem to be increasing.
Speaking to Radio Times Gaming, Apostolides said, “I am very cautiously optimistic. I have been let down in the past.” Referring to Zach Cregger, he added that a Resident Evil film reboot finally has real hope.
In Nick Apostolides’ own words, “If there’s one director who is not going to let me down, I think it’s going to be this guy. I love Cregger’s work, and I trust that he’s going to make a good film first and foremost, and that it will have Resident Evil elements in it. So I’m very, very curious, actually.”
Zach Cregger might be the best bet for a Resident Evil live-action adaptation, as he’s fresh off the success of horror hits such as Weapons and Barbarian. He also has a deep love for video games.
At CinemaCon, he revealed a first look at in-progress footage from Resident Evil, featuring Austin Abrams as Bryan, a medical courier surviving a horde of T-virus-infected zombies in Raccoon City.
While it’s a standalone story with a more grounded approach, it still promises to stay true to the Resident Evil formula while telling an original narrative rather than retelling earlier entries’ plots.
Requiem’s success has shone a light on the series once again, and it seems like the perfect time for a movie that remains true to the video game franchise, with a simple name: Resident Evil.
