Xbox and Nintendo fans will need to wait six months or more to experience Nioh 3. Despite Koei Tecmo publishing the action RPG, it will launch exclusively on the PS5 and Steam. Developer Team Ninja has produced popular titles like Ninja Gaiden for Xbox consoles and the Switch.

A new trailer confirmed that Nioh 3 will launch on the PS5 and PC on its February 6th release date. While it will not debut on other platforms for at least six months, the possibility of future ports exists. Developer Team Ninja has a strong presence on Xbox consoles, while the Switch 2 supports a growing number of third-party titles.

A trailer disclaimer settled the exclusivity debate

Sony recently posted a video showcasing the PS5 version of the souls-like game. Toward the end of the trailer, viewers learned that Nioh 3 will be at least temporarily locked to PlayStation consoles and PC. However, as early as August 2026, publisher Koei Tecmo could announce wider availability.

Conventional PS5 exclusive games have become increasingly rare. Looking at the franchise’s history, Sony Interactive Entertainment published Nioh and Nioh 2 outside of Japan. Both began as PS4 or PS5 titles, with PC versions arriving less than a year later. With the follow-up, Koei Tecmo has global publishing rights.

Never a true first-party PlayStation game, the latest entry in the series may have come to Steam on day one regardless. SIE has catered to desktop and laptop users with successful ports like Helldivers 2 and Stellar Blade. By contrast, Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 lack definite PC release dates.

Nioh 3 will not follow the Ninja Gaiden 4 path

Xbox console owners may feel disappointed, considering developer Team Ninja has made a comeback on the platform. Most recently, Xbox Game Studios promoted Ninja Gaiden 4 as a major Game Pass addition. Even so, with declining hardware adoption, critics question how many copies of Nioh 3 might sell.

The souls-like series has yet to appear on Nintendo systems. Still, a Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection Switch version surfaced in 2021. Koei Tecmo has also brought combat-oriented efforts like Dynasty Warriors: Origins to the Switch 2.

For now, players can try the Steam and PS5 exclusive Nioh 3 demo before its imminent release date. Some impressions are mixed, but the game is now a more open-world experience and offers Samurai and Ninja combat styles.
