A former Senior Animator for PlayStation exclusive games has concerns about the company’s future. Among his criticisms, Robert Morrison warns against porting so many first-party titles to other consoles. Rumors have hinted that other cross-platform games will join Helldivers 2 on the Xbox.

Many fans are unhappy with Sony’s declining interest in PlayStation exclusive games. A recent job posting suggesting more cross-platform titles are on the way only added to their furor. A former Bend Studio developer believes the company has also made other strategic mistakes. Robert Morrison’s social media post is full of suggestions that include a focus on single-player exclusive PS5 games.

Morrison worked for the PlayStation-owned Bend Studio until becoming a victim of layoffs earlier in 2025. The Senior Animator was involved with first-party PS4 and PS5 games, such as God of War and The Last of Us. Some gamers suspect he has an axe to grind against Sony, but many readers have reacted positively to the post.

The developer starts off by advocating to “Keep PlayStation games on PlayStation.” That’s likely in response to an increasing number of PC ports, or the surprising arrival of Helldivers 2 on Xbox consoles.

Microsoft has found success with cross-platform games, earning top positions on PlayStation Store charts. Still, its critics argue that the company had no alternatives in the face of struggling console sales. Even at a slightly slower pace, Sony continues to entice buyers to purchase PS5 and PS5 Pro systems.

Some analysts believe that a lack of PlayStation exclusive games would devalue the console. Fewer first-party games are debuting, and making titles multi-platform only lessens the appeal of Sony’s hardware.

Despite the negativity, Sony’s plans for the Xbox, Switch 2, and PC are not entirely clear. In June, PlayStation executive Herman Hulst downplayed cross-platform concerns, as described by Video Games Chronicle. Addressing another bullet point from Morrison, he also realizes the importance of single-player titles.

Adding to the confusion, insiders like NateTheHate and Christopher Dring believe that Xbox consoles will soon gain more PS5 games. While live-service games seem probable candidates, only time will reveal Sony’s intentions.
