With God of War now set to arrive on PC, YouTuber @Cycu1 set out to determine whether or not the upcoming PC port will deliver better visuals relative to the PlayStation 5’s 4K upgrade. In @Cycu1’s comparison video, it’s evident that, for the most part, the PC port looks like a close match for the PlayStation 5's enhanced upgrade. However, closer examination indicates minor improvements that work towards the PC's favor.
Shadow resolution appears to be slightly higher on PC, and shadow cascades extend out slightly further. A higher sample ambient occlusion implementation also appears to be in place, grounding characters and objects.
DLSS and NVIDIA Reflex support aren't seen in the video. However, these are both likely to have a significant impact on both visuals and the gameplay experience. Set to Quality mode, DLSS tends to deliver better image quality than a native 4K presentation with TAA. NVIDIA Reflex doesn't improve visuals per se. However, it can significantly cut down on input lag, making gameplay feel better in intense action sequences.
God of War is set to launch on PC in January 2022. We should have a clearer then about just significant the PC port's improvements prove to be.
