Santa Monica Studio has posted a polite message asking God of War Ragnarök spoiler sharers to restrict their online behavior in the aftermath of a US retailer purportedly selling the game well before its official launch date of November 9. However, key players in the creation of God of War Ragnarök, especially Cory Barlog, have been vocal in their frustration with the matter.

It appears gamers have been flooding social media sites such as Reddit, YouTube, and Twitter with clips, leaks, and full-blown gameplay videos of God of War Ragnarök. While Sony and Santa Monica Studio were preparing for a big official launch date of November 9 for the much-anticipated title, a retailer allegedly based in the US was already busy selling its stock of the game. While most major games are subject to leaks and spoilers, this SNAFU created by the miscreant retailer has resulted in God of War Ragnarök being completely exposed on the internet.

In response, the official Twitter channel for Santa Monica Studio has posted a carefully worded statement that asks God of War Ragnarök spoiler sharers to be “considerate” of fans who would rather wait until they had a copy of the game in their hands before finding out which gods fight each other and what Angrboða looks like. The official advice for God of War fans is to “mute any keywords or hashtags” that might indicate a God of War Ragnarök spoiler is on the other end. Unsurprisingly, some of those who were directly involved with the game’s development were more ticked off.

Matt Sophos, who is credited as one of the writers of God of War Ragnarök kickstarted his response with a sigh before suggesting people simply keep away from the usual social media suspects. Animation director Bruno Velazquez has asked followers to avoid spoilers thus allowing for greater enjoyment of the game, while producer Cory Barlog was so incensed that at one point he even declared “I can really understand the benefit of having just an installer on the physical disc”. Barlog soon made it clear that this was not what he wanted to see happen in the gaming industry but was just venting his annoyance and frustration with the whole God of War Ragnarök spoiler situation.
