God of War Ragnarok trailer teases new gameplay mechanics, combat, antagonists, and more ↺
After months of anticipation, Santa Monica Studios finally showcased God of War Ragnarok today (September 9, 2021). As expected, it carries forward the story of 2018's critically-acclaimed God of War. A post on the official PlayStation blog and the game's trailer gives us a rough idea about what the game has in store.
The God of War Ragnarok trailer starts off by revealing one of the game's main antagonists: Freya. It is hardly surprising, given the events of the previous game. Moving around the map will be a lot quicker by the looks of it, thanks to a dog-drawn sled of sorts. Familiar faces such as Mimir, Brok and Sindri show also show up. We also get to see a character that was presumed dead in the previous game: Tyr. As expected, Thor is teased as what could be the game's final boss.
In 2018's God of War, one could not access three of the nine realms (Svartalfheim, Vanaheim, Asgard) that the game had to offer. God of War Ragnarok will let you access all nine realms, and we can expect the story to take us to some, if not all, of them. Some new areas in the remaining six realms will be unlocked, too.
Unfortunately, God of War Ragnarok doesn't have a release date as of now; not even a release year. At best, we can expect it to drop sometime in late 2022 or 2023. There is a possibility that it could be pushed back even further, as the game's director Cory Balrog revealed that Santa Monica Studios is working on another title. Given its late release, God of War Ragnarok will be exclusive to the PS5, as prophesized by a report from earlier this year.
