Owners of both a 4K display and a PlayStation 5 are in for a little treat from Santa Monica Studio, especially if a lot of time using those devices is spent playing God of War. The game developer will release a free patch on February 2 that utilizes the power of the PS5’s components to offer up a greater visual experience for the player: 60 FPS @4K.
It’s not native 4K, but it is 4K (2160p) checkerboard resolution that gives PS5 owners the opportunity to enjoy the God of War game world at a high resolution and high FPS rate. Previously, there was a choice between a performance mode that kept the resolution at 1080p to allow for higher FPS rates and a resolution mode that offered 4K gaming but restricted to 30 FPS.
After installing the patch, PS5 owners with a 4K television or monitor can get to grips with God of War at 60 FPS and enjoy the best of both worlds, or they can opt to return to the safety of the mode that favors resolution (“original performance experience”), thus ordering Kratos around in checkerboard 4K @30 FPS.
