Sony reveals Marvel's Spider-Man 2 for PS5 in first trailer that could disappoint fans
During its PlayStation showcase today, Sony has revealed a first trailer for the successor to one of its most popular games of the PS4 era. Even though the hit game Marvel's Spider-Man has already received a rather short standalone spinoff for the PlayStation 4 named Miles Morales (from US$43 on Amazon), Sony has now confirmed that there is another full Spider-Man game coming to its next-gen PlayStation 5 console.
Unfortunately, there is not much to see in the 97 second long reveal trailer. The video material clearly consists of pre-rendered cinematic scenes instead of real gameplay. For fans of the original Spider-Man game, the shown combat scene will look very familiar. It shows Peter Parker and Miles Morales working together after the events of the spinoff, and the trailer clearly indicates that they will encounter the villain Venom, whose appearance was already teased at the end of the original game. Rumors say that players could be able to dynamically switch between Miles and Peter in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
However, the last seconds of the trailer could be a big disappointment for fans who are eager to play the new Spider-Man game. According to Sony, the PS5 game will not be released next year, but in 2023. While the long waiting time until the release is certainly underwhelming, it gives PlayStation fans enough time to finally get their hands on one of the rare PlayStation 5 consoles, which are still plagued by supply issues.
