Horizon Forbidden West: No free PS5 upgrade for buyers of the standard PS4 version
Since Sony's popular PS5 gaming console is still hard to get, many gamers have no choice but to play on their PS4 or PS4 Pro. These gamers that are affected by the microchip and console shortage can often rest assured that they can get a free PS5 upgrade for many of their PlayStation 4 titles, which is why it is often not necessary to buy the same game twice.
But of all those games that offer a free PS5 upgrade, Sony's highly anticipated Horizon Forbidden West (from US$59 on Amazon) apparently won't be one of them. According to the FAQ that was recently published on the official page of the successor to the critically acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn, the standard PS4 edition of Horizon Forbidden West will not receive a free PS5 upgrade. Of course, that version of the game will still be playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility, but there likely won't be visual improvements in comparison to the PS4 version. In order to get the free PlayStation 5 upgrade, fans of the franchise will have to buy the expensive Digital Deluxe, Collector's or Regalla edition of Horizon Forbidden West.
Unfortunately, it seems that owners of the standard PS4 edition of Forbidden West will have to pay full price for the PS5 version of the game to enjoy the better graphics. Sony also stated that there won't be a discounted upgrade path from the standard to the Digital Deluxe edition. The release of Horizon Forbidden West has recently been delayed to February 18, 2022.
