Rumours from earlier this year hinted at a new expansion for God of War Ragnarok. The ill-fated prediction was only partially correct. While the critically acclaimed AAA game will be getting some post-launch content, it won't be an ambitious expandalone title like Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It comes in the form of God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla, a free DLC that will be downloadable by everyone who owns the base game on December 12.
God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla serves as an epilogue to the game's storyline. There were a few loose ends (which will not be mentioned here for obvious reasons) that will hopefully be tied up. However, it won't continue the story in a traditional sense and take the Roguelike route instead. A player will start out with maxed-out stats and skills, but each run will have you " commit to a shield and path of Spartan Rage for each attempt."
Essentially, the upgrade path you choose determines your outcome, thereby resulting in near-unlimited possibilities. God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla can be played at all difficulty settings, which sort of negates the whole point of a Roguelike experience. Progress earned in one setting (easy) can be carried forward to another (Give Me God of War). The rewards earned scale exponentially with the difficulty. God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla can be played even if you haven't beaten the game (US$70 on Amazon), although it's better if you do, as it contains spoilers.
