The Duskbloods network test performance struggles with input lag affecting Switch 2

After a false start, FromSoftware resumed The Duskbloods network test for curious Switch 2 owners. While there are positives to report, performance issues in the online PvPvE title are frustrating players. Input lag is a concern, as well as frame rate drops in handheld mode.
It’s important to remember that there is time to optimize the Switch 2 game. The Elden Ring publisher still hasn't narrowed down its 2026 release date. That said, early impressions suggest developers have their work cut out for them.
Fast enough frame rates?
In docked mode, combatants say frame rates typically range from 40 to 60 fps. With additional characters on the screen, the visuals can become slightly choppy. Even so, the fluctuations generally aren’t severe enough to spoil the fun.
When conducting The Duskbloods network test in handheld mode, performance takes a hit. Frame rates dip to 30-40 fps, but VRR likely minimizes stuttering. Regardless, many gamers worry more about input lag as the maximum 8-player clashes unfold.
Redditor RamenRavisher believes that the duration between button presses and inputs registering can be up to 200 ms. The problem doesn’t seem related to insufficient bandwidth or a poor connection to the network test servers. Although the FromSoftware title doesn’t offer single-player action, the lag impacts the offline tutorial.
With dodging and blocking vital, frame rates take priority over resolution. That said, despite fans praising the game’s artwork, the visuals look fuzzy at times. The Duskbloods graphics appear to render at 1080p, even when the console is docked.
The jury is still out
Leading up to The Duskbloods release date, FromSoftware followers wondered about Switch 2 limitations. Elden Ring and Nightreign both suffered from frame pacing issues on more powerful systems. Lackluster Elden Ring performance on Nintendo’s hardware also prompted the port’s postponement.
The fact that the latest project is a Switch 2 exclusive game has raised expectations. There are promising signs, but the developers will have to improve the responsiveness during combat.
