Logitech unveils compact MX Keypad designed for AI-powered developer workflows

Logitech is giving developers a new way to control their increasingly complicated software workflows. The company has introduced the MX Keypad, a compact control pad equipped with nine full-color LCD keys that can be programmed to launch commands, scripts, macros and AI prompts with a single press.

The new Logitech device is aimed particularly at users working across multiple applications and AI-powered development tools. Rather than requiring developers to remember keyboard shortcuts or repeatedly type complex commands, Logitech's approach puts frequently used actions directly under their fingertips.

Each of the nine LCD keys can display a customizable icon and perform a different function. Using Logitech's Logi Options+ software (requires Windows 10 or macOS 14, or newer), users can assign shortcuts, scripts and macros to individual buttons. Two additional navigation keys allow users to switch between pages of controls, expanding the number of actions available from the compact hardware.

According to Logitech, the MX Keypad supports up to 15 pages of functions. Application profiles can also change the behavior of the physical keys depending on the software being used, allowing the same nine buttons to serve different purposes in applications such as VS Code, Slack and Chrome.

AI is a major part of Logitech's pitch for the device. The company has developed integrations and plugins aimed at AI-assisted programming, while a partnership with GitHub brings native GitHub Copilot integration to VS Code. Logitech says it is initially focusing on development environments before expanding compatibility to additional tools.

The MX Keypad is also designed to work with other AI coding services through its plugin ecosystem. Community-developed integrations can provide additional controls for services such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, potentially allowing developers to trigger AI workflows without leaving their primary application.

The color LCD keys are central to the experience because they provide visual feedback for each assigned action. Users can customize the appearance of the controls through the Logi Options+ software, while Logitech's marketplace provides additional plugins, profiles and icon packs.

Connectivity is straightforward. The MX Keypad connects to a computer through USB-C. Logitech is offering the device in graphite or light gray finishes.

The company has positioned the MX Keypad as a more affordable alternative to its larger MX Creative Console. At $99.99 on its official store, the new keypad costs roughly half as much as the $199 Creative Console, while concentrating specifically on the customizable LCD control surface.

Logitech says the MX Keypad is available in select markets from September 8, 2026.
