New strategy RPG tops Steam charts with "Very Positive" reviews and a 10% launch discount
Heroes' Vow: Three Kingdoms is a single-player sandbox RPG developed by the independent Chinese studio Free Wing and published by Free Wing and NPC Entertainment. The game entered Early Access on March 25, 2025, and got its 1.0 release on September 23, 2026. It is set during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms period.
Heroes' Vow: Three Kingdoms allows you to play as a ruler, officer, free officer, or hermit. Core systems include real-time strategy legion battles across more than 100 maps (including field, siege, naval, and other map types), turn-based combat, and debates. Officers can be developed through Command, Martial, and Mind Spirits, with extensive skill combinations.
The title emphasizes historical immersion and player agency. It includes over 20 starting scenarios ranging from the Yellow Turban Rebellion to late-period conflicts, more than 1,300 historical officers with animated portraits, and over 2 million words of narrative text. Players can experience or rewrite major historical moments, form alliances, manage estates, raise private troops, and more.
On Steam, the game holds a "Very Positive" rating with approximately 88% positive reviews from over 8,000 user reviews, which saw the game climb to the number one spot on Steam's Popular New Releases chart. It supports English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean for interface and subtitles, but audio is in Simplified Chinese. A seven-day launch discount of 10% reduces the standard price of $19.99 to $17.99. Minimum system requirements include Windows 10, an Intel Core i5 processor, 12 GB of RAM, and a GTX 960-level graphics card.
The full release added county systems, improved family mechanics for NPCs, additional storylines covering mid-to-late Three Kingdoms events, and improved UI.
