Deal | Winter sports sim with stunning open world drops below $1.50 for the first time on Steam

There are no fixed race tracks in Steep – just a mountain and plenty of ways to get back down. Ubisoft turns the Alps into a massive playground where players can carve through deep snow on skis or a snowboard, race past cliffs in a wingsuit or take to the skies at a more leisurely pace with a paraglider. Alaska was later added as an additional region via a free update.

It's not just about getting down the mountain as quickly as possible, either. Time trials, trick competitions and some fairly challenging wingsuit courses are scattered throughout the open world. Those who aren't in the mood to chase medals can simply find a peak and try their own route down into the valley. Discovered drop zones serve as fast-travel points, so there's no need to climb all the way back up the mountain. Those who would rather explore the mountain scenery together can also bring along up to three friends.

German gaming magazine PC Games reviewed Steep when it launched in December 2016, awarding it 8 out of 10 points and particularly praising its massive open world, impressive mountain scenery and challenging but fair activities. The fast-paced wingsuit sections and the sense of speed while skiing and snowboarding were especially well received. Criticism focused on the always-online requirement, the underwhelming multiplayer concept and limited long-term motivation. New gear is largely cosmetic, while additional abilities or tricks are rarely unlocked.

Players have reached a similar verdict: 82% of more than 33,000 Steam reviews are positive. Metacritic lists Steep with a Metascore of 71 and a user score of 6.5 – although the latter is based on just 388 ratings.

95% off on Steam for the first time

Steep normally costs just under $30 on Steam. However, a 95% discount brings the price down to $1.49 until October 1. According to SteamDB, the previous maximum discount was 90%, meaning the winter sports sim has now dropped below the $2 mark for the first time. On the Steam Deck, Steep is rated as “Playable.”
