Lenovo releases unusual laptop in more countries with 1,100-nit OLED and Intel Panther Lake
Lenovo has quietly expanded the availability of one of its more unusual 14-inch laptops to more countries. Specifically, the company is now selling the ThinkBook Plus G7 Auto Twist in North America, having released the same laptop about a month ago in Europe. For reference, while the laptop is also sold in China, Lenovo has yet to introduce the device in the rest of Asia or in Oceania.
Unfortunately, some caveats exist with this North American release for now, too. In Europe, one can purchase the ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist with up to the Core Ultra X7 358H, which contains Intel's powerful Arc B390 iGPU. By contrast, Lenovo currently limits the laptop in North America to the Core Ultra 5 325, which contains a third as many Xe3 iGPU cores as the Arc B390.
According to our benchmarks, the Arc B390 boasts more than twice the GPU performance compared to the Intel Graphics 4 Xe3 iGPU. Similarly, the Core Ultra X7 358H enjoys over 30% higher CPU performance than the Core Ultra 5 325.
Setting that aside, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist has reached North America with a 75 Wh battery, which supports 100 W charging. At the time of publication, Lenovo claims that this 75 Wh battery lasts over 18 hours in MobileMark 30 at 250 nits and over 21 hours in the JEITA-BAT 3.0 test at 200 nits.
Moreover, the laptop contains 32 GB of LPDDR5X-7467 RAM, a 512 GB M.2 2242 SSD and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. On top of that, Lenovo includes an 1800p OLED display, which combines a 30-120 Hz variable refresh rate with 500 nits peak brightness in SDR mode and 1,100 nits peak brightness when viewing HDR content.
As the video below shows, Lenovo mates this display to a motorised rotating hinge. This feature comes at a cost though, with the ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist retailing for CAD 2,929 and $2,109. In comparison, the regular ThinkBook 14 G9 IPL we reviewed in July is much cheaper than its Auto Twist counterpart (curr. $1,266 on Amazon).
