Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 pre-orders set Amazon record, dominating GTA 6

Nintendo didn’t hesitate to challenge Rockstar with a Zelda: Ocarina of Time release date in November. Amazon sales suggest the decision has paid off. While targeting very different audiences, the first-party Switch 2 game has secured over 100,000 pre-orders in the last 30 days. That number exceeds the cross-platform GTA 6 and any title debuting in 2026.
NeoGaf forum poster LordOcidax shared the discovery, which shows a strong performance in multiple countries. The Ocarina of Time remake is also currently the best-selling game on the U.S. marketplace. Further down the chart, GTA 6 PS5 and Xbox Standard Edition 30-day sales total around 11,000.
Timing matters
Several factors complicate comparisons between the two titles. Pre-orders for the Zelda game opened on September 8th, while reservations for the Rockstar project began in late June. Purchases for the Leonida-set candidate have been spread out over a longer period. With Sensor Tower estimating 5.75 million units moved so far, it may end up prevailing.

The exclusively digital GTA 6 Ultimate Edition has been especially popular. Of course, Amazon doesn’t account for PlayStation Store transactions. Ocarina of Time remake pre-orders cater to physical collectors, since cases contain a cartridge rather than a code. A limited foil cover for the initial run of the Switch 2 game enhances its appeal.
A $10 pre-release date discount at Amazon for the modernized Zelda has undoubtedly aided sales. Normally, the digital eShop version of first-party Nintendo arrivals is the only way to save. Still, even at Best Buy, where the price has stayed at $69.99, demand has been high enough to warrant a midnight launch event.
Physical merch
Shipping alongside the Ocarina of Time remake are a special-edition Zelda Switch 2 console and Pro Controller. The hardware has been equally sought after, with scalpers flipping the often-sold-out units for profit.
Nintendo could have an edge at third-party retailers, but Rockstar has its own tangible goods to boost revenue. Fans can purchase a GTA 6 album, collector’s box, and merchandise ranging from T-shirts to pins.
