GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2? Nintendo executive speaks out for the first time

GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. So far, there has been no official information about a possible port to the Nintendo Switch 2. However, a high-ranking Nintendo representative has now commented on the matter for the first time: the president of Nintendo of America.
In an interview with Variety, Pritchard was asked directly about a possible Switch 2 release of GTA 6. Her response, however, was cautious: “That's a matter between Take-Two and Rockstar, but I have nothing to announce on that front at this time,” the Nintendo executive said. While this isn't a rejection, it doesn't suggest any concrete plans either.
From a technical standpoint, such a port would likely be a major challenge. Although the Switch 2 is significantly more powerful than its predecessor and can run graphically demanding titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, GTA 6 could push the hybrid console much harder. With technical compromises such as a lower resolution, DLSS upscaling and a 30 FPS cap, a Switch 2 port doesn't seem entirely impossible. However, whether Rockstar would be willing to make such compromises remains questionable.
Reddit community divided over technical feasibility
On Reddit, many users doubt that GTA 6 could run properly on the Switch 2. The biggest obstacle is considered to be the CPU rather than the graphics performance. The hybrid console uses an Nvidia Tegra T239 chip with eight ARM Cortex-A78C cores, six of which are available for games. These run at around 1 GHz, making them significantly less powerful than the Zen 2 processors in the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. When simulating a large game world with numerous NPCs, vehicles and complex AI routines, the Switch 2 could therefore reach its limits. DLSS upscaling would offer only limited help here, as the technology primarily reduces the load on the GPU.
However, there are also more optimistic voices. Some users suspect that Nintendo and Rockstar might at least discuss a potential port given its commercial potential. Some even consider a heavily scaled-down version or a cloud edition conceivable. Another thing that stands out when reading the comments is that many users would actually prefer a Switch 2 version of GTA 5 rather than a GTA 6 port. After all, its predecessor was released back in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and should be considerably easier to bring to Nintendo's console. For now, however, the same applies to both GTA 5 and GTA 6 (available for pre-order on Amazon): Whether either game will ever run natively on a Nintendo console remains uncertain.
