Anbernic has showcased its latest gaming handheld of 2026. A throwback to the Nintendo 3DS, the RG DDS features a high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, a 6,000 mAh battery and 500-nit displays to achieve what Anbernic describes as a flagship and seamless dual-screen gaming experience.

Anbernic has launched a new device globally. Another dual-screen handheld, the RG DDS follows on from the RG DS that debuted almost a year ago and last month's RG DS Plus (curr. $124.99 on Amazon).

According to Anbernic, the RG DDS surpasses both as its 'flagship dual-screen handheld console'. To that end, the new device leverages the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, an octa-core chipset already found inside the Retroid Pocket G2. In other words, the RG DDS should outperform the AYN Thor, which utilises the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Additionally, Anbernic equips its new handheld with what it describes as two 'customised' IPS displays. As the video below shows, the RG DDS contains a 4.7-inch top display and a 4-inch bottom display. Nonetheless, both panels output at 720p with a 300 PPI pixel density and peak at 500 nits to provide a seamless dual-screen experience.

As a result, the RG DDS is said to be capable of playing Nintendo 3DS games at a 3x integer scale. Moreover, the handheld features a 6,000 mAh battery, an active cooling solution, dual joysticks and front-firing stereo speakers. The handheld contains a built-in stylus with its black, blue and white finishes, too. Pricing and a release date remain unknown for now, though.
