As Zelda: Ocarina of Time foil cover sells out permanently, some stores still have pre-order bonus

Physical Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake pre-orders include a limited edition textured foil cover. While exact quantities were unclear, this variation of the Switch 2 game is now selling out. Amazon says the bonus is no longer available and doesn’t plan restocks after the November 5th release date. For now, buyers can still find it at other retailers.

Nintendeal informed followers the alternate packaging was becoming scarce. The Amazon message confirms purchases following the launch will ship with the standard wrapping. It’s unclear whether boxed copies will appear at the store at all again before then. Customers who already secured their copy should not see any impact.

Fortunately, the elusive Zelda: Ocarina of Time textured foil cover hasn’t vanished completely. Walmart currently lists the Switch 2 game as in stock with a $10 discount. At the regular $69.99 price, Best Buy is another option. However, the title has repeatedly sold out, and when it resurfaces, it may lack the popular benefit.

Retailers like the Brazilian Gamer Hut believe the textured packaging has amplified demand. As a result, many gamers have been disappointed ahead of the Ocarina of Time remake release date. Commercial director Ricardo Vieira regretted that Nintendo did not inform them about the pre-order bonus in advance.

Is the fancy cover worth it?

Since the Nintendo Direct showcasing the Zelda Switch 2 game, in-person footage of the foil cover has emerged. The shimmering material reflects various colors when held at different angles under light. Physical collectors will also discover the surface is slightly bumpy.

The extra disappearing at Amazon is particularly troubling for U.S. buyers. Unlike in other countries, it’s often the only perk bundled with Ocarina of Time remake pre-orders. EB Games Canada patrons receive a retro-inspired dual-sided slipcover. Meanwhile, Micromania in France is holding a random drawing to give away 5,000 replicas of an N64 box.
