Monster Hunter Stories has dropped to $9.89 on Steam. This discount amounts to a substantial 67% cut from its $29.99 MSRP; it's also the lowest price the game has ever been at on Steam, as per SteamDB. This promotion runs until 21 September.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection launched in March 2026 across PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2. Anyone who came to the sub-series through it can now start at the beginning for under ten dollars.

This game's premise is still one of the clearest pitches in the entire franchise: instead of hunting monsters, you raise them. The players' role is that of a Rider. You're retrieving eggs from dens, hatching 'Monsties' and building a party for turn-based combat that runs on a rock-paper-scissors system of Power, Speed and Technical attacks. You also have a "Kinship Gauge" that enables joint attacks alongside your mount.

This is the 2024 remaster of a 2016 Nintendo 3DS game that reached the West in 2017 and never found a large audience there. Capcom's re-release added full voice acting, a museum mode, upgraded textures and environments, expanded language support, and every title update previously exclusive to Japan.

And players have loved this game. Steam users rate Monster Hunter Stories "Very Positive" (roughly 90% across more than 1,600 reviews) and it sits in OpenCritic's 75th percentile (at 76%). Reviewers especially praise the visual work and accessible combat, albeit mentioning that its 3DS origins still come through in pacing and structure.

Capcom says you need an i5-3470 or FX-6300 with a GTX 960 or RX 560 at minimum for 1080p at 30 fps — and the recommended spec lists the same GPU, bumping only the CPU. The game is Steam Deck Verified, and Denuvo was removed in November 2024. Two bundles are also worth checking out alongside: one pairs it with the sequel (Monster Hunter Stories 2), another adds Twisted Reflection.
