The Canon EOS R8 Mark II will be officially unveiled in a few days. A picture is said to show a sneak peek of the full-frame mirrorless camera’s brand-new design, while rumors have already revealed key details about its features and even its price.

The Canon EOS R8 ($1,349 on Amazon) is expected to get a successor as early as September 15, 2026. CanonRumors has now published a first image purported to show the camera’s fundamentally redesigned look. While this is a mockup, not an official product image, the design is said to be practically final.

The "retro look" mentioned in earlier rumors turns out to be rather subtle – the body is significantly more angular, and the grip features new leather trim and a simpler shape. The button layout remains largely unchanged. The camera is expected to be available starting in October for a suggested retail price of €1,879 ($2,180). While the camera is expected to be more powerful, its features remain unchanged in some of the most important areas.

This is because Canon is reportedly set to include a 24-megapixel full-frame sensor with a sensitivity range of ISO 100–102,400. An electronic shutter enables shutter speeds of up to 1/16,000 s, however, the camera does not have a mechanical shutter at all. One of the most significant upgrades is reportedly the improved autofocus, which is said to work more reliably thanks to AI algorithms and animal tracking.

The camera is said to be capable of capturing up to 40 photos per second, as well as 4K video and 1,080p slow-motion footage at 180 frames per second. The sensor is image-stabilized, which is said to allow for longer exposure times, up to 7.5 stops, without a tripod. The camera uses the LP-E17 battery, which was also used in the previous model, and features a single SD card slot.
