MindOne Pro teardown: Flip-style smartphone with sapphire glass, rotating camera and "global internet"

A recent teardown video by JerryRigEverything examined the MindOne Pro from Ikko, an unusual flip-style smartphone distinguished by a single 50 MP camera module that rotates 180 degrees to serve as both the front and rear camera. Sporting a compact, square body comparable in size to a Galaxy Z Flip, the phone uses a four-inch 1080p AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. A MediaTek MT8781 octa-core CPU is on board, flanked by 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB eMMC 5.1 storage.

The phone's unusual design brings clear compromises. The rotating camera assembly, held by narrow pivot pins rather than a more robust hinge bar, broke off entirely under stress, even though the rest of the chassis showed no flex. The device also lacks full waterproofing, carrying only an IP54 rating. Internally, the teardown revealed a 2,200 mAh battery, a graphite thermal pad instead of paste, and an unreinforced, non-waterproofed speaker and vibration motor.

The screen is advertised as sapphire, although its "9H" hardness claim is not a meaningful scientific measure. Testing nevertheless confirmed genuine sapphire crystal, which resisted scratches until Mohs level eight. It also withstood direct flame exposure without visible damage, a result attributed to sapphire's high thermal conductivity.

The device's advertised "free global internet" (via an off-grid AI mode) turned out to be a bundled AI chatbot service that responded slowly and could not process images. A separate VSIM data option is available, but tester Zack Nelson was unable to obtain pricing information. Otherwise, it supports a conventional SIM for calls.

Overall, the MindOne Pro stands out for taking a genuinely unconventional approach to smartphone design, but its rotating camera introduces an obvious durability weakness, while some of its features are less useful (i.e. connectivity) or less practical (i.e. the 2,000 mAh battery or IP54 rating) than one might hope for in a smartphone.
