The Xiaomi 18 Fold is official, and promises top-notch performance with the brand-new Xring O3 ARM chip. This exceptionally wide foldable packs two 4,000-nit AMOLED displays and a 6,000 mAh battery into a 5-millimeter-thin, exceptionally robust chassis.

Shortly after Huawei unveiled the exciting, double-folding Mate XT2, Xiaomi is introducing the new Xiaomi 18 Fold. With its wide format, the device competes directly with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 ($1,649 on Amazon), but is said to offer better features in many respects. The 5.02-millimeter-thick body is IP59-certified and therefore waterproof. Weighing 219 grams, the device is barely heavier than many non-foldable smartphones.

This is due in no small part to its compact design, as the secondary display measures just 5.38 inches and offers a resolution of 1,712 x 1,168 pixels. The 7.58-inch main display offers 2,364 x 1,672 pixels. Both screens feature a 120 Hz refresh rate and 4,000 nits of brightness. The flagship smartphone is powered by the Xiaomi Xring O3 ARM chip, which, with ten processor cores, a 16-core GPU, and boost clock speeds of up to 4.35 GHz, is said to deliver 52 percent higher performance than the Xring O1 and even outperform the Apple A19 Pro.

Despite its relatively lightweight body, Xiaomi has managed to include a 6,000 mAh battery that can be charged via USB-C at 67 watts or wirelessly at 50 watts. Xiaomi doesn’t skimp on the cameras either, as the Xiaomi 18 Fold features a 200-megapixel f/1.7 main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and a Leica lens, a 50 MP f/2.4 ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50 MP f/2.8 periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x zoom. The main camera can record 8K video at 24 fps as well as 1,080p slow-motion video at 960 fps. The selfie camera features a 16 MP sensor.

Pricing and availability

The Xiaomi 18 Fold launches in China with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash storage for ¥10,999 ($1,640), while Xiaomi is pricing the top-of-the-line model with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage at ¥14,999 ($2,240). Xiaomi has not yet confirmed whether or when the foldable phone will be released in the rest of the world. According to rumors, Xiaomi does not plan a global launch.
