Nitecore releases 18650 battery with 4,000 mAh (14.4 Wh) and all-weather features

Nitecore has released the new NL1840AW. The new rechargeable battery uses the 18650 form factor and offers 14.4 Wh of capacity or 4,000 mAh at 3.7 volts. Its special feature, however, isn't the capacity, it's the AW in the product name: All-Weather. Alongside Nitecore's cold-temperature resistant Summit Air power bank and the low-temperature battery pack, the new battery makes it possible to bring other devices into cold weather just by replacing the battery.
Like the other products, the NL1840AW can be used at temperatures as low as -40 °C (-40 °F) at 10,000 meters (33,000 feet) altitude. The battery can retain 65 percent of its capacity in these conditions and supports at least 500 recharge cycles. Conventional batteries might offer more cycles but can barely be used at very low temperatures without a heating element. The NL1840AW doesn't need that.
The battery also has an IPX6 water protection rating. According to Nitecore, the battery also has a pressure relief valve to protect the battery in case of sudden temperature increases.
The first shipments have already arrived. The battery is sold for 30 US dollars.
