With the Mate XT 2, Huawei is introducing one of the most exciting smartphones of the year, as the device features an AMOLED display that can be folded twice and helps protect the user’s privacy. Huawei has equipped the ultra-thin foldable phone with a brand-new Kirin 9050 Pro processor and a 5,600 mAh battery.

Like its predecessor, the brand-new Huawei Mate XT 2 features a display that can be folded twice. When folded, the device is about the same size as a standard smartphone with a 6.5-inch display, even though the Mate XT 2 is relatively thick and heavy at 12.3 millimeters and 299 grams.

When unfolded, however, the smartphone is only between 3.5 and 4 millimeters thick, and with a screen diagonal of 10.2 inches, it’s larger than some tablets. Both displays use LTPO AMOLED panels. The secondary display supports 120 Hz and has a resolution of 2,442 × 1,140 pixels. The foldable display offers a resolution of 3,184 × 2,232 pixels but typically runs at only 90 Hz. Only the top-of-the-line model is equipped with a 120 Hz main display that also supports a privacy display. In other words, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra ($1,249 on Amazon), the viewing angles can be restricted at the touch of a button to prevent people from reading the screen from the side.

Unlike with Samsung, however, this only works across the entire screen at once, not on parts of the screen. Huawei has equipped the device with a brand-new HiSilicon Kirin 9050 Pro, which is said to deliver 46 percent better performance than the Kirin 9030 Pro. The smartphone has a 5,600 mAh battery that can be charged either via USB-C at 66 watts or wirelessly at 50 watts.

The Huawei Mate XT 2 features a 50 MP main camera with a relatively large 1/1.28-inch sensor and a variable aperture that can be adjusted from f/1.49 to f/4.0. It also features a 40 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera, a 50 MP f/2.2 periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x zoom, and an 8 MP selfie camera on both the main and secondary displays. A laser is designed to speed up autofocus, while a dedicated sensor is intended to ensure more natural colors.

A unique feature for a foldable phone is that the Huawei Mate XT 2 is IP59-certified, making it sand-resistant and waterproof. Another curious feature is that the smartphone offers an ECG function that uses the metal frame as electrodes. GPS, NFC, a dual eSIM, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor round out the features.

Pricing and availability

The Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design will first be released in China. The base model with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash storage costs ¥19,999 ($2,980), while Huawei is pricing the top-of-the-line model with 1 TB of storage and a Privacy Display at ¥24,999 ($3,725). Huawei has not yet confirmed whether the smartphone will also be available in the rest of the world.
