OM Pen leaks on Amazon with new design, 20.4 MP sensor, and AI autofocus
OM System’s next Micro Four Thirds camera will be officially unveiled on Wednesday, September 9. However, the system camera could already be pre-ordered on Amazon in the U.S. one day before the launch, with the e-commerce giant already revealing the camera’s design and features in advance, shortly before the listing was taken down.
The OM System Pen is offered in a kit with two zoom lenses: the new M.Zuiko 14–42 mm f/3.5–5.6 III and the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40–150 mm f/4.0–5.6 R, for a total of $1,299. Weighing 393 grams, the OM System Pen is slightly heavier than the Pen E-P7, but it also features a built-in OLED viewfinder. The display can be folded out, for example, to take selfies, or folded back after being rotated 180 degrees to protect the screen.
The camera uses a 20.4-megapixel sensor in the Four Thirds format, which has a base ISO of 80. The Amazon listing highlights image stabilization and 4K video, but otherwise provides few details about the camera’s features. In addition to the electronic viewfinder, Amazon highlights one major new feature in particular: an AI autofocus designed to recognize both people and pets in order to focus on them more reliably.
The controls remain largely unchanged. A dial on the front allows you to switch between color and black-and-white at any time, just as before. Two unlabeled dials let you adjust the exposure settings. The mode selection dial offers not only a fully automatic mode and PASM modes but also scene modes, filters, and two user-configurable modes.
