Mars Attracts 1.0: Full release date, sandbox mode & updates

Developer Outlier has confirmed that Mars Attracts, its dark theme park management sim set in the officially licensed Mars Attacks universe, will leave Steam Early Access for its 1.0 launch on September 24, 2026. Arriving roughly a year after its September 2025 Early Access debut, the milestone update caps off a development cycle shaped heavily by player feedback gathered through the studio's Discord community. It adds an unrestricted Sandbox Mode, an expanded research tree, new human captive enclosures, and a final story campaign map.
Human abductions, historical habitats, and Martian CEOs
Mars Attracts flips traditional zoo management on its head by casting players as Martian CEOs building profitable tourist attractions on the red planet. Instead of housing wild animals, players send abduction missions to Earth and bring back humans from different eras... Ancient Rome, the Wild West, Feudal Japan.
Keeping Martian guests entertained means building enclosures suited to each captive's tastes and environment. It's a balancing act: keep humans comfortable enough that they don't escape, while still giving guests what they want... experiments, thrill rides, and the odd gruesome display made from a captive who didn't make it.
Sandbox Mode, security guards, and 1.0 overhauls
The 1.0 update adds a dedicated Sandbox Mode, so players can build freely without worrying about money or research restrictions. The update also overhauls park logistics, introducing specialized porters to streamline vendor supply chains, alongside upgraded security forces equipped to pacify rampaging humans before they destroy rides or harm Martian tourists.
Existing systems get deeper too: the research tree now unlocks additional buildings and staff abilities through experiments performed on captive humans, while new enclosure types give parks room to house a wider roster of abducted historical figures, including recognizable names like Julius Caesar and Cleopatra. Outlier has said the finished game retains all of the base systems introduced during Early Access, including financial management, staff hiring, and multi-map progression, rather than replacing them outright.
Mars Attracts 1.0 launches September 24, 2026, for PC via Steam. A pre-launch beta playtest featuring the new campaign mission and Sandbox Mode is currently live for Early Access owners, with players able to sign up through the game's official Discord.
