Could Pragmata get a sequel? Capcom says the chances are high

Major publishers rarely launch completely new franchises these days, as it's usually much safer to continue established series. Capcom certainly has no shortage of those, with Street Fighter, Monster Hunter and Resident Evil among its biggest brands. That's precisely why Pragmata's success is so encouraging – not just for the Japanese publisher itself, but also as a positive signal for the games industry as a whole. According to Bloomberg, the sci-fi adventure has now sold more than 2.5 million copies, exceeding Capcom's internal expectations.
Pragmata's success also comes at an ideal time for Capcom. During its first fiscal quarter, the publisher reported operating profit of 41.1 billion yen (approximately $280 million), driven in part by strong sales of older titles and successful releases on the Nintendo Switch 2 (available on Amazon for $608). It's therefore no surprise that the company is already discussing the future of the new franchise. Speaking to Bloomberg, Capcom executive Yoshikazu Shimauchi said that the chances of a sequel are good. However, Pragmata 2 has not yet been officially announced or confirmed.
The prospect of a sequel has been met with enthusiasm by many players. In a Reddit discussion, numerous users describe the first game's success as a well-deserved reward for a bold new IP. Particular praise is directed at the sci-fi setting, the combination of third-person shooter gameplay and hacking puzzles, as well as the relationship between Hugh and Diana. For a potential sequel, however, many players would like to see a greater variety of enemy types, more engaging hacking mechanics and even more gameplay diversity overall.
