Console mode arrives for SuperStation FPGA console

Retro Remake has released the so-called console mode for its PlayStation-inspired SuperStation FPGA console. The 1.5GB image is based on version 1.2 of the SuperStation firmware and is available as a download on GitHub named SuperStation_1.2.0-ConsoleMode.img.zip. As usual, the console's SD card must be prepared for the update, making the process similar to a fresh installation. An upgrade path is also available, but it is more complicated.

The process, along with many other details, is explained in a console mode tutorial video on YouTube that runs for more than 50 minutes. It was recently released specifically for the new SuperStation firmware. Once console mode is installed, future updates are expected to be easier to install via OTA updates. In our experience, the update process on the console can take quite some time. Developer Taki Udon advises waiting patiently if display issues occur and the update does not appear on the screen immediately. The update can take between 10 and 20 minutes.

However, the update is worthwhile. The new interface makes the console considerably easier to use, supports game artwork and helps organize titles. It also offers extensive customization options. console mode also provides access to WiFi settings and allows Bluetooth devices, typically controllers, to be paired. Controllers can also be configured within console mode. CRT Mode works differently, as it continues to use the old MiSTer menu system. Additional minor updates for console mode are planned over the next few weeks.
