Retroid Pocket Nova might cost more in the future

The Pocket Nova is Retroid's latest handheld, and it has already begun shipping. However, an announcement by Retroid hints at the new device costing more in the future.

Many manufacturers, including Retroid, have been forced to increase the price of their products this year due to the rising cost of RAM and storage. Earlier this month, it announced a price increase for the Pocket 5 and Pocket Flip 2 (available on Amazon for $269), albeit with an increase in RAM. The Pocket 6 also got a price increase a few months ago. However, the likely price increase of the Pocket Nova isn't attributed to RAM and storage costs.

According to a social media post by the manufacturer, Qualcomm has hinted at an industry-wide increase in the price of its processors. Considering the Pocket Nova is powered by the Qualcomm QCS8550/Qualcomm Dragonwing QCS8550, which is a variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, it means its cost of production will increase when Qualcomm raises prices.

Retroid says it is trying its best to keep the Pocket Nova's prices stable, but it will provide more details when it knows more. The handheld starts at $229 for the base model with 8GB of RAM and $269 for the 12GB RAM version, and it is available to buy now from the manufacturer's website. All orders made before August 1 will ship with a free bumped back shell and a tempered glass screen protector. Both gifts are worth $10 combined.
