Retroid Pocket 5 released packing high-end features for fans of budget Android gaming handhelds
Retroid has now released the Pocket 5, less than a year after the company started selling the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro (curr. $249.99 on Amazon). For context, the Pocket 5 is joined by the Pocket Mini, release details of which we have covered separately. As for the Pocket 5, Retroid equips the device with the following hardware:
- Display: 5.5-inch OLED, 1080p, 60 FPS
- Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865
- RAM: 8 GB LPDDR4x-2133
- Storage: 128 GB UFS 3.1
- Battery: 5,000 mAh battery
Additionally, Retroid has included an active cooling solution to keep the Pocket 5's chipset cool under high load. Moreover, the Snapdragon 865 provides Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity; however, Retroid has seemingly disabled the chipset's modem. On top of that, the Pocket 5 features 3D Hall effect joysticks, analogue triggers and interchangeable button layouts.
For reference, Retroid has packed all this hardware into a 199.2 x 78.5 x 15.6 mm housing that weighs 280 g. Please note that while Retroid's website shows $219, applying the RP5SAVE20 between now and September 11 at 01:00 UTC will reduce the device's price to $199. Alternatively, the Pocket 5 and Pocket Mini can be purchased together for $369 at launch. Please see Retroid's website for more details.
