Retroid has now released the Pocket 4, a cheaper alternative to the Pocket 4 Pro that it also started selling today. To recap, Retroid introduced both gaming handhelds less than a fortnight ago. While the pair both measure 184.8 x 82.6 x 15.8 mm and weigh 261 g, quite a few differences exist between them.
On the one hand, Retroid equips the Pocket 4 with the Dimensity 900, a 6 nm and octa-core chipset that we have reviewed in the Samsung Galaxy M53 5G and OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G, among other devices. For reference, the Dimensity 900 combines two ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores with six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores running at 2.4 GHz and 2.0 GHz, respectively. Additionally, the chipset contains a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU clocked at 900 MHz, which Retroid complements with 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage.
Moreover, the Pocket 4 has a small active cooling solution, as well as a 5,000 mAh battery and a 4.7-inch IPS display outputting at 1,334 x 750 pixels with a 60 Hz refresh rate and 500 nits peak brightness. For now, the Pocket 4 ships in the following colour options:
- 16Bit
- 16Bit US
- Black
- Crystal
- Ice Blue
- Watermelon
Please note that the latter is expandable via a MicroSD card, although Retroid has not confirmed the TF slot's peak capacity. Incidentally, the Pocket 4 price matches the Pocket 2S Metal Edition, which has just launched as well. Hence, the Pocket 4 carries a $149 MSRP that has been discounted to $145 until December 23, with a complimentary screen protector thrown in too. Despite being orderable from today, Retroid states that it will not start shipping the Pocket 4 until January 25, 2024; please see Retroid's website for more details.
