Capcom has just released the new Resident Evil 4 (remake) on Apple’s App Store, making it available for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, as well as for iPads and Macs with the M1 or later chips. One can download and play part of the game for free, but unlocking the full game requires an in-app purchase. A 50% launch discount brings the price down from $60 to $30, but it is only available until January 17.
On iPhone, the game requires 30 GB of space, iOS 17 and the A17 Pro chip, which means that currently it only runs on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. On iPad or Mac, it requires 70 GB of space, iPadOS 17 or MacOS 13 and up, and runs on devices with M1 or newer chips. The game is compatible with PlayStation, Xbox, or other wireless controllers. Resident Evil 4 has received "universal acclaim" from review aggregator Metacritic, with 98% of 193 critic reviews recommending the game on OpenCritic.
This is not the first of the Resident Evil games to be brought to Apple’s ecosystem – Resident Evil Village was ported to MacOS about a year after its initial release, and to iOS and iPadOS a year after that, in October this year. It has received high praise for offering a playing experience that matches Xbox or PS5 consoles, even on Apple’s devices. However, the RE 4 remake was launched just this year in March. Unlike RE Village, it supports Universal Purchase, allowing customers to make a single app purchase for multiple Apple devices.
During the iPhone 15 launch, Apple proudly showed off the gaming prowess of the A17 Pro chip, which is equipped with hardware based ray-tracing. Customers can expect several more AAA games to come to iOS soon, among them the upcoming Death Stranding, which was recently pushed back to a 2024 launch.
