Steam's “Best of 2023” games list has been published with games spread across 3 categories from Platinum to Bronze. Here is a selection of the best “Deck Verified” games to play on that new Steam Deck, or Steam Deck OLED you got for Christmas.

Hogwarts Legacy - Platinum

Quoted by Notebookcheck as one of the most expensive and best looking PC games of 2023, Hogwarts Legacy is the latest and arguably best game set in the Hogwarts universe to date. An open world RPG that has you doing everything from going to classes to flying a hippogriff as you try to unearth an ancient secret of the wizard world. Hogwarts Legacy certainly pushes the Steam Deck to its performance limits, but even on low settings the game still looks gorgeous. With solid reviews across the board from users and critics, Hogwarts Legacy is a fitting tribute to the world of wizards and love him or hate him, not a single mention of Harry Potter to be found.

Cyberpunk 2077 - Platinum

Released nearly 4 years ago and surrounded with scandal, Cyberpunk 2077 has finally reached a point where most of its gameplay bugs have been ironed out and missing features have been added, including a rideable Metro, repeatable car races, love interests and of course, cats. Needing little introduction, Cyberpunk 2077 is an open world first person RPG set in the glowing Night City. You can happily sink a minimum of 25 hours into this game just to complete the main story and the widely regarded Phantom Liberty expansion adds another 13 hours, It might have taken 4 years to reach a fully playable state, but there is a reason this Deck Verified game reached Platinum status on Steam's "Best of 2023" list.

Resident Evil 4 - Gold

Capcom has been on a roll with its Resident Evil remakes. Ever since the first person Resident Evil 7: Biohazard released in 2017 with the Frostbite Engine, Resident Evil games have scaled really well to lower end hardware. Resident Evil 4 represents a remake of a game that was widely regarded as the best in the series. Popping cultists heads with a shotgun has never felt so satisfying and the Resident Evil staple where your character gets ambushed in a confined location, tense action and careful ammunition management ramps up the adrenaline. Combined with its 5 hour DLC Separate Ways, Resident Evil 4 is a fantastic game that plays great on the Steam Deck.

Dead Space (Remake) - Silver

Less of a game and more of an endurance (for anyone that plays through on hard), Dead Space takes everything that was great about the 2007 original and makes it bigger, scarier, bloodier and more intense. Graphics are top notch with the revamped lighting and increased reliance on Isaacs torch adds to the tension as necromorphs pop out of air vents and unlit corners of the environment. The Steam Deck will happily churn out 30 FPS on medium settings making this essential gaming for horror survival fans whether you own a Steam Deck or not.

Dave the Diver - Bronze

Explore the deep sea in this quirky RPG that mashes exploration with managing a sushi restaurant. Dave the Diver is a beautiful and colourful retro recreation of the deep sea. Spend your time spearfishing and exploring all the time managing your air, to catch fish that can be given to your sushi chef “Bancho” who dishes out the catch of the day in a frantic diner style mini game. Dave the Diver continually throws new and engaging surprises at you including managing your own fish farm, growing seaweed, racing sea horses and creating new recipes. There’s so much to this game it can take upwards of 25 hours to complete and as a “Deck Verified” game unsurprisingly is a superb experience on the Steam Deck.
