RedMagic 9 Pro: Uncompromising gaming smartphone with powerful cooling and hidden front camera launches at a low price

The Nubia RedMagic 9 Pro is now available. The model comes in two configurations: The first with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory costs $649. Those who require 16 GB of RAM and twice as much storage will be charged $799. The larger storage version is available in two color variants, namely Cyclone and Snowfall.

A Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-SoC is installed, which is expected to deliver high performance for long periods time without throttling thanks to a special cooling system. The cooling system not only includes a thermally conductive paste, but also an active fan that can reportedly operate up to 22,000 rpm (revolutions per minute).

The 6.8-inch screen has a resolution of 2480 x 1116, the refresh rate is up to 120 Hz and the maximum brightness is an impressive 1600 cd/m². Corning Gorilla Glass is attached and the PWM dimming has a reported frequency of 2160 Hz. The color deviation of the AMOLED is specified as a Delta E value of less than 1. The touchscreen has a refresh rate of 960 Hz and the touch shoulder buttons 520 Hz. A special gaming mode can be activated via a button and the RGB lighting is customizable.

The operating system runs on Android 14. A 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization is installed; the 16 MP front camera is hidden under the display. Operation with two SIM cards is supported, even on the 5G network. Image content can also be output via an adapter. Unlocking is also possible using your own fingerprint. In our review, the RedMagic 8 Pro impressed with its attractive price and its effective, albeit quite loud, cooling solution.
