The RedMagic 9 Pro can easily be mistaken for a "smartphone from 2030" thanks to its cutting-edge camera hump-free design - according to Zach Nelson, that is. Nevertheless, the new Android gaming powerhouse was very much in the present for the popular vlogger's classic battery of bend, burn and scratch tests - augmented in this case by putting the device's hidden selfie camera under the microscope.

The RedMagic 8 Pro was JerryRigEverything's first victim guest of 2023 - however, its successor the 9 Pro has actually managed to beat it in this respect, having launched globally just days ago to be able to land on the same YouTube channel before the end of the same year.

Then again, the newer smartphone does not really resemble its predecessor, with a design that iPhones might be able to achieve but only by 2030, as Zach Nelson quipped prior to the 9 Pro's initial encounter with the ever-present razor blade.

The vlogger was also able to verify that the 9 Pro does indeed have a flat back, only interrupted (as previously observed by Ash from C4ETech) by the flash module that protrudes slightly to help protect the under-glass rear cameras from scratches.

The RedMagic 9 Pro's selfie camera is also located under the display's cover glass, of course - and also the entire screen. It can be seen through the pixel matrix - so long as you have a hand-held digital microscope, which also revealed that it is augmented by tiny rings of LEDs for (theoretically) improved lighting.

Its selfies do seem somewhat improved compared to previous UDC camera generations - stay tuned for our upcoming review to see if we reach the same conclusion.

In the meantime, RedMagic fans can rest assured that the 9 Pro seems to be as durable as it is clean, seeming particularly resistant to bending thanks to its metallic frame and reinforced active cooling system (which was also capable of extinguishing a lighter by itself).

It will be interesting to see if other Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered smartphones prove as robust in 2024. In the meantime, the ROG Phone 6 Diablo Immortal Edition can be found on Amazon for $599.99 today (December 20, 2023).
