RedMagic 9 Pro preview reveals outstandingly non-existent camera hump
The high-end smartphone camera revolution might have yielded impressive results, yet has come at the cost of devices with ever-growing protrusions that may add a surprising amount of bulk and may have difficulty resting flat on a table. However, RedMagic claims to have solved this problem in the latest generation of its flagship smartphones.
The Nubia brand strongly hints that it has managed to fit the 9 Pro series' rear cameras under their glass backs. This has apparently been achieved by heavily customizing "nearly half" of the components in question in-house, and by fusing the "ultimate light transmission and polarizing" properties one might expect of a camera lens with the rest of the rear panel.
RedMagic has a history of sticking with centrally-mounted rear cameras, with varying cosmetic results. By contrast, those of the first-gen "flat-body" smartphone have been re-arranged to look more like those of a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra - except of course that the 9 Pro has an active fan in place of the bottom-most lens.
On that note, the 9 Pro series is touted to come with yet more cooling and battery upgrades. Nevertheless, RedMagic asserts that the 'completely flat' 9 Pro frame's height is "not increased" at 8.9 millimeters: same as that of the S23 Ultra. Hopefully, this new design is revealed to come with no compromises to the rest of RedMagic's typically cutting-edge Android gaming smartphone appeal later in November 2023.
