The RedMagic 8 Pro series is now official as the most "evolved" form of its premium Android mobile line to date. The brand asserts that the 2 new smartphones go beyond their traditional e-sports heritage with a more streamlined, "futuristic" design and rear cameras that may be taken seriously for once. Then again, the 8 Pro Plus (or Pro+) goes back to its roots somewhat with SKUs that combine its OEM's fastest charging tech and an RGB-lit active fan to help keep its new top-end processor cool.

RedMagic has unveiled its latest generation of top-spec'd Android smartphones today (December 26, 2022). The Nubia brand built its name on a 'gaming' appeal, yet has now affirmed that part of its effort to boost their new-found sophistication levels involves dropping a successor to the vanilla 7 in favor of a choice between an 8 Pro and Pro+ as of late 2022.

RedMagic has now also revealed for the first time that their 2nd-gen under-display camera tech and Red Core enhancements apply to 6.8-inch FHD+ AMOLED panels, touted to allow greater transmission and clarity for its 16MP selfie camera than ever before.

Accordingly, the brand also asserts that the 8 Pro series' UDC panel will also be better and less distracting in the selfie camera region for applications such as VR and AR in this generation.

They are also backed with advanced full-sized graphene sheets as part of their upgraded ICE 11.0 cooling systems for their Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. It drives a refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch-sampling rate of 960Hz in the 8 Pro/Pro+ display, thus touted as capable of sustaining high-frame-rate gameplay over time.

Both the 8 Pro and Pro+ are slated to step up to improved video and photography with the inaugural inclusion of the updated ISOCELL GN5 sensor for their triple rear camera set-up (the rest of which gets so little attention in RedMagic's new launch material that it may be of little use in practice).

Nevertheless, RedMagic has made it clear that the 8 Pro is pitched at those looking for a more all-round 2022 flagship smartphone experience. It pairs the line's first "CUBE-enhanced" 6,000mAh battery for potentially ultra-long screen-on times; however, it charges at a fairly moderate 80W, as opposed to the full-fat 165W GaN charging provided for the 8 Pro+'s 5,000mAh battery, for those looking for the edge in charging times instead.

The RedMagic 8 Pro starts at 3,999 yuan (~US$574), albeit only because it is the only new mobile device with base models in which their LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 internal storage modules are 8GB and 128GB respectively.

The 8 Pro, on the other hand, is priced from 5,199 to 6,999 yuan (~US$747-$1005), ranging from 12GB/256GB optionss in the series' default black finish for its "evolved" rear panel to 16GB/1TB top-end SKUs in RGB-lit, physical fan-equipped Deuterium. Finally, RedMagic has also now revealed that the 8 Pro will hit international shores on January 16, 2023.
