Asus intends to be the first to release AI-centric PC systems in 2024. At first, these will be targeted at content creators and enterprise clients, so the price points will be on the premium side. Most PC OEMs are expected to release similar systems next year, so prices should come down in a few years.

AI is set to become an integral part for laptop and desktop systems in the coming years, especially as OS developers like Microsoft and Apple look to include extensive support in upcoming releases. As one of the largest PC system OEMs in the world, Asus is on the forefront of these AI-powered developments with plans to release premium-priced genAI systems in 2024.

In a recent address made during the annual technology forum in Taiwan, Asus co-CEO Samson Hu estimated that AI PC systems would represent sub-10% of all the company’s shipments in 2024. This is due to the price premium that is meant to target enterprise clients and content creators at first. However, prices could gradually drop in the coming years, since Hu is expecting that “not only Asustek, but basically every PC vendor is mulling unveiling their own [AI PC] models next year.”

The exact specifications for the Asus AI PCs have not yet been revealed. According to TaipeiTimes citing Samson Hu, the first generation of AI-centric systems may be powered by Intel’s Meteor Lake CPUs with integrated NPUs. Intel’s consumer-oriented AI solutions would get software support from around 300 independent app developers via the OpenVino tools. AMD already has the Phoenix processors with AI accelerators and also plans to release more powerful versions next year.

Furthermore, Hu touched upon the current lack of industry consensus when it comes to defining what actually constitutes an AI PC. The latest Asus investor slides suggest that the first consumer-grade AI PCs will be grouped together with the ProArt Creator systems, while the enterprise offerings should include AIoT, AI servers and AIHPC systems.
