Last month, Minisforum was teasing its first 2-in-1 tablet that is supposed to launch in early 2024, and now the company has provided more detailed specs, including the processor models. These were initially believed to be part of AMD's Phoenix lineup, but now it looks like Minisforum is upping the ante with AMD’s Phoenix-refresh lineup called Hawk Point.
The MS Surface-like V3 tablet from Minisforum will come in a 14-inch form-factor with a QHD+ 165 Hz touchscreen, detachable keyboard and a stylus. Minisforum plans to include AMD’s Ryzen 8040U APUs with 22-28 W TDP, which are expected to be announced at CES in January 2024. These models will still be based on the current Zen4+RDNA3 architecture, but will most likely feature memory and AI improvements. Speaking of memory, the RAM specs are not too clear, as Minisforum only mentions 6400 MHz, but does not specify if the chosen standard is LPDDR5 or DDR5.
From previous leaks, the Hawk Point APUs are rumored to integrate up to 8x Zen4+ cores and up to 12 CU RDNA3 GPUs, as well as AI cores with 10 TOPS speeds. Otherwise, the tablet would get a bunch of premium features, like a fingerprint sensor integrated in the power button, speaker setup with 2x tweeters and 2 x subwoofers, 2 MP front cam + 5 MP rear cam with Windows Hello ID and at least a 50 Wh battery. Port selection will include 2x USB4, 1x USB-C with DP mode, audio jack and SD card reader.
No info on prices for now, but knowing how Minisforum prices its mini PC solutions, we can expect competitive price points.
