MINISFORUM has presented UM790 XTX, a mini-PC based around AMD Phoenix APUs. The MINISFORUM UM790 XTX will be available later this year packing plenty of intriguing features, including an Oculink port and APUs with 70 W TDPs.

MINISFORUM has presented the UM790 XTX, a new mini-PC that houses plenty of powerful hardware despite its compact dimensions. According to the company, it plans to offer the UM790 XTX with AMD Phoenix APUs, which is not that uncommon in of itself. However, MINISFORUM claims that it will scale their TDPs to 70 W, theoretically allowing the UM790 XTX to outperform its peers while maintaining the same APU.

For reference, the Beelink GTR7 Pro can push its Ryzen 9 7940HS APU to 65 W, so it remains to be seen what effect an additional 5 W would have on AMD's Zen 4 and RDNA 3-based APU. Additionally, MINISFORUM has designed the UM790 XTX with two M.2 2280 slots that support PCIe 4.0 drives and a pair of SODIMM slots that accept up to 64 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM. Meanwhile, a modem provides Bluetooth 5.3 and WiFi 6E connectivity, although this could be replaced in future with a newer modem thanks to MINISFORUM's decision to include an M.2 2230 slot.

Moreover, the UM790 XTX has an Oculink port for eGPU expansion from the likes of the GPD G1. In short, Oculink is an extremely high bandwidth port (64 Gbps) that has been shown to deliver superior performance compared to an eGPU connected via Thunderbolt 4. As the images below, show, MINISFORUM has included DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, USB 4, USB Type-A and Gigabit Ethernet ports too. Unfortunately, MINISFORUM has not revealed pricing or a global release date for the UM790 XTX yet.
