According to Mark Gurman, Apple might be preparing a new Mac mini with the base M3 chip. The M3 Mac mini seems to be under development alongside new 13 and 15 MacBook Air laptops and three MacBook Pros with 13, 15, and 16-inch screen sizes.

Apple could be developing a new Mac mini powered by the M3 chip that is expected to launch later this year. Mark Gurman reports in the latest edition of his weekly Power On newsletter that a new Mac model with the base M3 chip is currently under testing at Apple and it allegedly features 8 CPU cores ( 4 high performance + 4 efficiency cores ), 10 GPU cores, and 24 GB of memory. While the developer logs where this information originates from don’t mention the exact name of the Mac model, Gurman believes that it could be a Mac mini based on the specifications of the M3 chip being used.

Furthermore, Gurman alleges that the new Mac mini will launch with the macOS Sonoma 14.1 which the analyst calls “the first point update to the upcoming new Mac software release”.

In addition to the M3 Mac mini, Gurman maintains that Apple currently has M3-based 13/15-inch MacBook Air SKUs, a 13-inch MacBook Pro, and a new iMac model in development. There could also be 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros in development that use the Apple M3 Pro and M3 Max chips respectively. According to previous reports, the M3 Pro packs 12 CPU cores (6 high performance + 6 efficiency), an 18-core GPU, and 36 GB of unified memory.

All in all, it appears that we might get a slew of new Apple devices later this year, possibly starting in October, with the new M3 chip. It remains to be seen which machines Apple launches in 2023 and which the company pushes to 2024 when Cupertino is also releasing the Vision Pro augmented reality headset.
