MKBHD names his 10 best and worst smartphones of 2023
Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) has now provided his opinions on the best and worst smartphones released this year. For context, Arun Maini, better known as Mrwhosetheboss, beat MKBHD to the punch of publishing a smartphone awards video. Nonetheless, the former providers a more European view of the smartphone market in 2023, mainly because some Android OEMs elect against bringing their smartphones to all markets, as proved the case last year with the Nothing Phone (1) (curr. $346.99 on Amazon).
At any rate, MKBHD splits his winners into ten categories, with one titled 'bust of the year' for his worst smartphone of the 2023. Additionally, the YouTuber has given folding smartphones a dedicated category, the first new category in a number of years. As he explains in the video below, 2023 is arguably the first year in which a variety of foldables have been available in North America.
It is also worth noting that there may be better budget options available in other markets. For example, BBK Electronics subsidiaries and Xiaomi tend to avoid officially selling their mid-range options in North America, which may explain why MKBHD decided on a $400 price tag for his 'value award'. The full list of winners and losers for 2023 are as follows:
- Best big smartphone - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
- Best compact phone - ASUS Zenfone 10
- Best camera - Apple iPhone 15 Pro
- The value award - Samsung Galaxy A54
