OnePlus has now lifted the lid on the Open, its alternative to the Oppo Find N3 and its first foldable smartphone. For reference, OnePlus will not start shipping Open pre-orders until the end of October at the earliest, with its UK listing November 16 as a worst-case scenario. Nonetheless, the company gave Notebookcheck some hands-on time with the OnePlus Open at one of today's launch events.
According to our Managing Editor Vaidyanathan Subramaniam, OnePlus has succeeded in minimising the device's foldable display crease, unlike Google and Samsung's alternatives. Arguably, this should come as no surprise, considering the OnePlus Open builds on two generations of Oppo's foldables. Still, the crease is visible when looking at it off-angle, which is also the case with the likes of the Huawei Mate X3.
The OnePlus Open closes flat too, with no visible gap between its two halves. While the chassis itself maintains a slim profile at 11.7 mm, its huge camera housing likely puts its overall thickness on par with the Galaxy Z Fold5. Please see our short hands-on video below for our impressions about the OnePlus Open and how OnePlus has distinguished it from the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Pixel Fold.
