ZTE subsidiary Nubia has now presented the Z60 Ultra, the company's first Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered smartphone. One of the more unusual smartphones released this year because of its under-panel front-facing camera (UDC), the Nubia Z60 Ultra is also one of the few models to be presented in China and globally on the same day. Please see our global launch article for European pricing and pre-order deals.
As pre-release teasers confirmed, the Nubia Z60 Ultra utilises fifth-generation UDC technology for a near bezel-less experience. To that end, Nubia has included an AMOLED panel that measures 6.8-inches across with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 1,500 nits peak brightness, 2,160 Hz PWM dimming and a 2,480 x 1,116-pixel native resolution. However, it appears that the display lacks LTPO backplane technology, which would be necessary for providing variable refresh rates.
Nonetheless, the Nubia Z60 Ultra packs a 6,000 mAh battery, 80 W wired charging and vapour chamber cooling. Additionally, the handset is IP68 certified and continues with Nubia's tradition of including a 35 mm primary camera, which outputs at 50 MP with an f/1.59 aperture and a 1/1.49-inch optical format. Moreover, the Nubia Z60 Ultra features 18 mm ultra-wide-angle and 85 mm telephoto cameras. For reference, Nubia has optically stabilised (OIS) all three rear-facing cameras.
The Nubia Z60 Ultra is available in China with five configurations, starting at 12 GB RAM and 256 GB of storage. While the handset costs as little as CNY 3,999 (~$562), it rises to CNY 5,999 (~$843) with 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. Please see ZTE's website for more details.
