MSI teases first gaming handheld with possible Intel Core Ultra processor before CES 2024 reveal

MSI has begun teasing a new product segment for itself on social media. While the company has only provided three device shots so far, the first points to it being a gaming handheld, which it describes as a 'new breed of MSI Dragon'. Meanwhile, the other two images show the device's back panel and top edge, which MSI will adorn with its logo and 'TRUE GAMING' branding, respectively.

Additionally, we can make out two ports positioned on either side of this branding. On the one hand, the unnamed gaming handheld has a top-mounted 3.5 mm jack like many modern gaming handhelds. On the other hand, there appears to be a lightning bolt inscription next to its other top-mounted port, which typically denotes the presence of Thunderbolt connectivity.

Strictly speaking, MSI's gaming handheld could have an AMD Ryzen APU and a Thunderbolt controller. Given this would give the device few practical benefits over its USB4-equipped competitors, it would seem that MSI has opted for an Intel processor instead, likely a Meteor Lake part, because of its superior iGPU performance. Other details are unknown for now, although the front of the device resembles the layout of the ASUS ROG Ally. MSI will share more details about its first gaming handheld next week during CES 2024.
