MSI Titan 18 HX to launch with a Core i9-14900HX, GeForce RTX 4090, Wi-Fi 7 and a mechanical keyboard

MSI teased the next version of its colossal Titan GT77 HX ($3,799 on Amazon) earlier last year. Among other things, the MSI Titan 18 HX was said to feature an 18-inch mini LED screen with a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. A listing on the Chinese e-commerce website JD.com (h/t Vidoecardz) has now shed light on its other specs.

The MSI Titan 18 HX will come in two variants, one with a GeForce RTX 4090 and the other with a GeForce RTX 4080. Both will be paired with Intel's top-spec Core i9-14900HX Raptor Lake refresh processor. The CPU and GPU have access to 270 Watts of power in total, 20 Watts more than the last-gen Titan GT77 HX.

This should allow the Core i9-14900HX about 95 Watts of TDP headroom when its GeForce RTX 4090 is maxed out at its 175 Watt(150 base plus 25 boost) TGP. While that should be adequate for most workloads, Intel's HX CPUs are notoriously power-hungry, guzzling up to 198 Watts in some instances. Nevertheless, it should help with sustained performance in hybrid workloads like gaming.

Other MSI Titan 18 HX specs include support for up to 128 GB of DDR5 RAM, Wi-Fi 7, up to 4 TB storage, a mechanical keyboard, a 99.9 Wh battery, two Thunderbolt ports (version unspecified) and a 400 Watt power supply in the box. MSI will likely talk about the Titan 18 HX and the rest of its lineup at CES 2024.
